It came and it conquered! Orkut has become a worldwide rage, and is nothing short of the same in India too. Keeping it’s evergrowing popularity in mind, the people behind orkut, at Google, have maintained constant surprises for it’s members. And one of the latest surprises that the orkut members got, was the new improved look of the social networking site.

These features include the option to not just remove the display picture of your profile, (probably at the behest of those who thought that without a picture, they would be better off!), but also the added option of cropping the one as per your requirement or interest, as soon as you upload your favourite display picture. And what could have been better than the advantage of adding your favourite /funny / occasion -special pictures and videos (from youtube) in your friend’s scrapbook. Thoughful indeed for those who would have wanted to wish their friend a very happy birthday, albeit in a different way.

Well the mutual friends feature which was added long time back helped the users identify if there was a chance that they could send a new add request to that beautiful girl, by telling her, you know what, i am the friend of your that friend! In case, that doesn’t work, you can tell the person that you and he/she have common interests! How? Just view all of that new person’s communities, and on the top of the list, you’ll find the button saying “mutual communities“. And you can know all about what common interests you share. Do we see a lot of flirting already?!!

What’s more? Well, if the recent spate of fake profiles has been bothering you, you can now use the security tips displayed in the interface. And in case, that you happen to be orkutting in the United States of America, you’ll be delighted to know that you have the additional tab of “friends map” where you can simply click on the area and see the friends in that area. Excitation mounts to a new high. And does it all end here? You bet not! Orkut would be introducing a new feature of blogging very soon. And with the regional languages having been introduced recently, all set to climb the popularity charts, there will be more attractive features on the login page, like it was on the eve of 15th August. So you can expect some fireworks on the login page, this Diwali! Happy orkutting!

Yep… if there was one thing I wanted from orkut, it was for it to change it’s shabby look. The new look is defnitely much slicker by comparison.
